% ls -ld /home/wand/committees/phd/www
ls: /home/wand/committees/phd/www: Permission denied

% ls -ld /home/wand/committees
drwxr--r--  19 wand     faculty      4096 Apr  3 14:49 /home/wand/committees/

We rabble don't have execute permission on /home/wand/committees/
