[Linux-users] regarding desktop GUIs

This message is intended for people who logged into a linux box graphically.
Can anyone tell me if on their first login to the machine a desktop came up
along with gnome with url icons pointing to the linux site and mailing list site?

i'm having a bit of issues with the desktop functionality of gmc myself and am
wondering if my setup is skewed or if the defaults are.
