ABSTRACT
Computers take an important role in our daily life. They are used in
Agriculture, Food, Water, Public Health, Defense Information, and
Telecommunications, Energy, Transportation, etc. Evil people will
realize soon that more harm can be done attacking computer networks than
crashing planes into buildings. The talk is organized in two parts. The
first part will discuss computer attack methods and the second part will
focus on computer networks defense.
Two methods used to attack computers will be explained: Password
cracking tools and malicious logic. Examples of Password cracking tools
are L0phtcrack, SAMInside John the Ripper, Cain & Abel, Offline NT
Password & Registry Editor. Examples of Virus, Worms, and Trojan Horses
are the Morris Worm, Melissa Virus, Chernobyl, and the Love Virus.
The second part of the talk will be about computer network defense where
Intrusion Prevention, Computer Forensics and Information Assurance
Education are important components.
