One of the recruiters here at The MathWorks has asked me to announce that
we're looking for good programmers, with a graduate degree, to fill
positions in our Engineering Development Group. In this group, people
split their time between working on various projects for development teams
around the company and providing support to our customers. We've always
regarded EDG as a stepping-stone to other positions in the company: if an
EDG engineer does particularly well on a project for a particular
development team, they'll often end up joining that team as a fully-fledged
member. People tend not to spend more than 18-24 months in EDG before
moving on to other positions in the company.

Historically, we've hired people for this group without CS backgrounds;
they often come from computer engineering, electrical engineering,
mechanical engineering, and other similar disciplines. This has the
advantage that they often start with lots of prior experience with our
products, but we're realizing that we really need people who can program
(primarily in C++ and Java) to help out on a lot of the support projects
for other development teams within the company.

Ideally, they're looking for folks who will be graduating or otherwise
leaving NU in the first half of 2010. At this time, they're interested
only in US citizens.

I've also asked Agnes to post this in the department. If you know anyone
else who might be interested, particularly among the MS students, please
pass this along to them!

If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email.

Richard
