Subject: Call for NEPLS participation (Oct 18) -- schedule and new format
To: Kathi Fisler <kfisler at gmail.com>

Schedule for and directions to the next NEPLS meeting (Thurs, Oct 18th
at WPI) are posted at http://www.nepls.org. Please email

   wpi-nepls at cs.wpi.edu

to register. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions and
whether you are registering for other people as well as yourself.

In hopes of making NEPLS more interactive and less like a conference,
this meeting features a lighter schedule. There will be five
30-minute talks, each followed by a nontrivial break (this is _not_
overflow time for speakers). We will also try a new "open mike"
session, designed for brief (5-minute) presentations of research
ideas, questions, weird hypotheses, problems, or whatever other PL
thoughts are on your mind. If you'd like to reserve an open-mike
spot, email me (kfisler at cs.wpi.edu).

NEPLS participation from faculty and other senior researchers (as
opposed to grad students) has been flagging lately. We hope the more
interactive format will attract more senior folks to the event, as
well as make it more valuable for all who attend. Contact me with any
questions. Hope to see you on the 18th!.

Kathi
