berlin is being reinstated from the original linux image taken from it,
since the gnome install was broken beyond belief. we made a decision in
a meeting to _not_ upgrade gnome at this time since it was a.
unimportant and b. tricky and risky, _especially_ concerning stow,
prefixes, etc.

i would appreciate it if anyone makes any single change to that machine
that they broadcast exactly what they did, why they did it, what
files/dirs are involved, and to not leave the machine until everything
changed has been tested to work fully.

for someone to come to that machine (namely me) and have a broken setup
because of carelessness is quite irresponsible.

for now the important list is (since they have to be re-done due to
reimaging) remove slackpack's windowmaker and the older gnome's
proplist from stow/old_stuff install windowmaker/libproplist from
source to stow/windowmaker (version dirs) link /course set default
mozilla proxy add pico, vi (xterm -e pico, xterm -e vi) to gnome menus
take away useless applets (mixers, cd players, battery meters, etc.)

thanks, and remember that only a fully tested system makes any work
even remotely worthwhile.
