Abstract
The range of IoT devices and of those responsible for the technology is daunting. Stretched security teams are often loath to take on the responsibility of dealing with IoT.  Yet the benefits, scale and growth of IoT creates a much larger attack surface that makes the urgency to assess risk more important than ever.   Paul will share from a real-world experience viewpoint the challenge of identifying, assessing, securing and monitoring IoT.   Examples will be given across a range of industries with a deeper dive into one or two specific examples.   The focus will also highlight existing and new technologies to as practical approaches to dealing with IoT from a security perspective.

About the Speaker
Paul has more than 30 years of leadership experience in technology and information security.  He is currently consulting to early stage cyber security companies through his firm Loud Rumble and is an advisor to the Security Innovation Center. Paul most recently led Pwnie Express as CEO, transforming the company into the world’s first SaaS based device detection platform for threats caused by the proliferation of IoT.

Previously he was CEO at Savant Protection, an innovator in industrial control system protection that was sold to Digital Guardian. From 2002-2008 he was CEO of Core Security Technologies, where he successfully launched the world’s first commercial grade automated penetration testing solution Core Impact, creating over 600 customers in 40 countries. Prior to that, Paul was President of the Americas unit at Baltimore Technologies, where he grew the US company 5X in 2 years. He came to Baltimore from CyberTrust where he led sales and marketing.  Baltimore Technologies acquired CyberTrust for $150 million in 2000.  He also served on the board of Nitro Security that was sold to Intel/McAfee in 2011.  He also held management positions with Lotus Development and IBM.  He is a graduate of Bowdoin College.
