Title: Talk Title: Free and Open-Source Software: A Primer on Licenses and Patents

Abstract:
The path to free and open-source software is not always well-understood, despite being well-traveled. In this panel presentation, free and open-source software lawyers from Red Hat and the law firm of Wolf Greenfield will explain how to choose the right license, how patent procurement plays in, and how free and open-source software works for large and small projects.

Bios:
Richard Fontana is Senior Commercial Counsel at Red Hat. He is Red Hat's lead attorney for open source, engineering and software development matters.
Justin Colannino is an attorney in the Litigation Group at Wolf Greenfield, where focuses his practice on patent and copyright litigation-particularly in the fields of computer hardware, software, and networked services. Justin also advises clients regarding free and open-source software development, including license compliance.
 A.J. Tibbetts is an attorney in the Electrical & Computer Technologies Group at Wolf Greenfield, where he represents clients in a wide range of technologies, including in the mobile app, software development tool, operating system, financial technologies, big data analytics, and speech technologies industries. His practice focuses on assisting small and growing companies in developing IP strategies to protect their investments and innovations.
